I just got my Tacoma back after the frame replacement. I am very happy with the job. It drives straight and true. The tranny is fine. 4wheel drive works great. There are no check engine lights. It is much quieter than before. No squeaks or odd noises. So far, no complaints. A 10 year old truck is now as stiff and quiet as a new one.

Toyota just took my 2002 in for the rust issue and is replacing the entire frame. They will have it for a few days and even gave me a loaner. My only issue is that the entire truck has to be disassembled. What kind of can of worms will that open up ? I offered to negotiate a buy back and even told them I would use the money towards a new Toyota but they won't do it. All in all, that has to be at least $8000 worth of work and parts. It is a win-win for me.

I took my 2000 Tacoma SR5 4x4 in just this week for the frame test and Toyota could not have been cooler about it. It failed and they have set me up with a 30 day loaner for free (brand new Sierra van) and I just got the offer: $13,774 for my truck that I paid $10,200 for four years ago. Now that's a deal in my book.

Part of the problem is that Toyota is liable for any issues once they discover the frame issue. Having a frame fail can lead to a lot of bad things and Toyota is handling this the only way they can (pay to replace some or buy the trucks back at 1.5 cost).

What kind of deck is it? Most decks have dimmer lights, but it may not be marked as such.

Hey, I'm stuck! My new deck does not have wires for the dimmer. Where do connect these wires? I don't have dash lights because of it.

I agree. I had a Ranger with fifteen years on it before I got my Tacoma and the frame didn't even have surface rust. A mechanic told me that the Tacoma frames have too much nichol in them, which is oxidizing.
Bought my '99 Tacoma new with nine miles on it, garage kept, have 130k on the odometer, immaculate condition and now have to sell it back to Toyota because the frame has rusted out.
While the buy back program seems generous. It's not for the owners who took care of their trucks expecting to to be driving them in twenty years.
Do anyone know if Toyota is selling the parts from these trucks when they buy them back?
